General questions
How does TelemaTek İM3L work?
İM3L runs on its own batteries. At scheduled times or when a defined event occurs, it determines its location and sends accumulated data over the mobile network. Between connections, it enters low-power sleep mode while continuing to record activity and temperature according to its settings.
Its operating logic is simple: if a mobile connection is available, it sends the data; otherwise, it stores the data in memory until a connection succeeds. When GNSS signals are available, it determines satellite coordinates. When they are unavailable, it uses nearby access points or base stations for Wi-Fi/LBS and GSM/LBS positioning.
Does the device work in the mountains or outside mobile network coverage?
Yes. The device records activity and temperature data in its internal memory, as well as GPS coordinates when satellite signals are available. Without a mobile connection, it stores data and sends it during the first successful connection after coverage returns. If a large amount of data has accumulated, transmission is completed in batches over several communication sessions.
Why are there no new device connection records in the dashboard?
The absence of a new connection record does not mean the device has stopped working. It may have been unable to access the mobile network during the scheduled transmission. Weak coverage, placement deep inside a metal compartment or a surrounding structure that blocks signals may cause this.
The device stores data in memory and continues trying to transmit according to its schedule. If the tracked asset is moving, wait for the next successful connection. If it remains stationary and cannot connect for a long time, check the device's placement and, if possible, move it to a location with better reception. Once connected, it sends the accumulated records.
Insufficient SIM credit or mobile data allowance can also prevent data transmission.
Will installing İM3L invalidate the vehicle warranty?
No. İM3L needs no electrical connection, making installation easier across different vehicle makes and models and avoiding warranty risks from such modifications. Installation requires no drilling, electrical connection or interference with the vehicle's original systems, so those interventions do not create warranty risks.
The device's electromagnetic compatibility has been verified through testing under EN 301 489 standards and CE-RED requirements.
How long does one battery set last?
One battery set can support approximately 2,000 communication sessions. Allowing for battery self-discharge and changing weather conditions, the device can operate for up to 5 years with one connection per day.
With hourly connections, operating life is approximately 2,000 hours, or about three months. Actual duration depends on settings, additional connections and usage conditions.
Can I track the device continuously in real time?
No. The shortest transmission interval is 10 minutes, which uses energy more quickly. Intensive tracking mode is intended for locating the tracked asset in an emergency.
Approximately 2,000 connections at 10-minute intervals correspond to about two weeks of operation on one battery set. Less frequent connections for long-term monitoring leave a battery reserve for intensive tracking in a high-risk situation.
How is location determined?
İM3L uses GNSS/GPS satellite positioning, Wi-Fi/LBS and GSM/LBS. When satellite signals cannot be received, nearby Wi-Fi access points or mobile base stations can provide alternative location information.
Positioning accuracy comparison
| Environment | GPS / GNSS | GSM / LBS | Wi-Fi / LBS |
| Major city centre | 5–50 m | 100–500 m | 20–100 m |
| Urban residential area | 5–30 m | 300–1.000 m | 20–150 m |
| City outskirts | 3–15 m | 500 m–3 km | 30–300 m |
| Rural area | 3–10 m | 1–5 km | 50–500 m |
| Remote areas | 3–10 m | 5–20 km or more | 50–1.000 m* |
These values indicate approximate location errors, not guaranteed accuracy limits. GPS/GNSS requires sufficient satellite reception. Wi-Fi/LBS requires detectable nearby access points listed in the positioning database and may be unavailable in rural or remote areas. GSM/LBS accuracy depends on base station density.
Can I see the location with one-metre accuracy?
One-metre accuracy is not guaranteed. Outdoors, satellite positioning errors are generally a few metres. In places with difficult reception, such as around tall buildings or in narrow streets, errors can reach tens of metres or more. Wi-Fi/LBS and GSM/LBS accuracy depends on nearby infrastructure and available data.
Does the device work indoors or inside a metal enclosure?
The device continues collecting data. However, metal surfaces and reinforced concrete can block satellite and mobile network signals. This results from the physical properties of radio signals, rather than a device fault. Thick metal or concrete layers can block signals and cause reflections. If the device is fully enclosed by metal, signals may not reach it.
How can the device operate for several years?
Low-power electronic components, software-controlled power management and CR123A lithium batteries work together to extend operating life. The satellite receiver and mobile communication module activate only when needed; the device spends most of its time asleep.
How do I replace the batteries?
CR123A 3 V batteries are widely available in retail chains and online marketplaces. Alternatively, send the device to us for battery replacement by our service team.
Does opening the dashboard update the location?
The dashboard displays the latest received data. Opening the page does not trigger a new device connection. Check the record's date and time to see how recent the information is.
When do settings changed in the dashboard take effect?
The device receives new settings during its next successful connection to the server.
Why are two SIM cards used?
SIM cards from different operators provide alternative connection options. If one operator's network cannot be reached, the other can be used to transmit data.
How can I replace a SIM card?
Send the device to our warranty service. We replace the SIM cards and configure the device free of charge.
What are the operating and maintenance costs?
TelemaTek Panel is free, with no software subscription fee. The user pays for SIM mobile communication and battery replacement when the batteries reach the end of their life.
Devices can also be purchased with SIM cards whose communication fees are prepaid for a defined period. Ask our sales representative about the available options.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Access TelemaTek Panel through a browser on your computer, tablet or phone.
How long can I access historical data?
The dashboard provides access to location, event, temperature and activity records received from the device during the last five years.
How many devices can I add to one account?
There is no device limit. Manage a few devices, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands in one account. Group devices and give employees access appropriate to their roles.
